Painted Hall 300

The Painted Hall is celebrating its 300th birthday in 2026 – and we invite you to join us and be part of the next chapter.
If these walls could talk, what would they tell you? Stories of power and politics, myth and legend, love and loss – and, of all the people who’ve walked through this astonishing space over the past 300 years.

This year, we’ll be showcasing the stories, the artists and the people that have shaped – and continue to shape – the Painted Hall.

One of the most magnificent Baroque interiors in Europe, the Painted Hall is a feat of artistry crafted Sir James Thornhill and his team between 1707 and 1726.

A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Painted Hall is the jewel of Maritime Greenwich. Known by many as the UK’s Sistine Chapel, what better time to visit us than during our 300th anniversary year.
