Donations provide us with vital support to help preserve, protect, and interpret our site for the future.

How your donations help

Each year, we carry out over 10,000 hours of conservation work, host over 3,000 school children, and welcome over 600,000 visitors to our UNESCO World Heritage Site. To keep our grounds open to everyone, it costs over £3 million per year to maintain.

Your donation will therefore help safeguard the Old Royal Naval College for many years to come.

Below are some examples of how your donations help us.

Education

We aim to inspire and engage schools and other community groups in our heritage and creativity. Support from our donors helps us to fund our education work.

Gifts in Your Name - Lanterns

Our intricate 18th and 19th century ironwork lanterns have illuminated Sir Christopher Wren’s buildings for generations and we hope they will illuminate the grounds for years to come.

Help us to conserve our 120 lanterns and contribute to our commitment to preserving heritage crafts.

Talk to us about conserving one of our lanterns in your name by calling 020 8269 4758 or emailing development@ornc.org.

Painted Hall Project

An £8.5m restoration to clean and conserve Sir James Thornhill’s epic Baroque interiors was completed in 2019. Thanks to our donors and partners, the Painted Hall has been brought vividly back to life and is now open to the public.

The project has won a number of awards, including a prestigious Museums & Heritage Award for Restoration/Conservation project of the Year and two RIBA awards.
