Choir
Since 2001, the Old Royal Naval College Trinity Laban Choir has provided outstanding sacred music for the Chapel. The choir includes accomplished singers from Trinity Laban Conservatoire and the local community. It is directed by Dr Ralph Allwood MBE with support from the chapel organist, Jonathan Eyre.
The choir sings a varied repertoire spanning 500 years of sacred music. It offers over one hundred performances every year as part of the Chapel’s regular worship. The choir also sings additional services on special occasions such as Ash Wednesday, Ascension Day, and Remembrance Day, as well as throughout Holy Week. Highlights in the choir calendar include the much-loved Service of Lessons and Carols, oratorios performed at Christmas and Easter, and regular tours.
Now considered one of the most successful sacred music ensembles in London, the choir is unique in being the only collegiate chapel choir in the UK to be supported by a conservatoire. This gives the choir access to a wide range of additional musical resources and support.
Many alumni from the choir have gone on to work as choral scholars and lay clerks in cathedrals and large churches, as well as professional singers in some of the UK’s leading vocal ensembles. Members have also been successful as soloists, performing in distinguished competitions such as the Kathleen Ferrier Awards and the Mozart Singing Competition.
