Banners of Resistance Workshop

Join us for a collaborative textile banner workshop inspired by protest culture in the context of our Cornwallis Cloth exhibition.

Discover the Caribbean’s vital role in the Second World War and discover the rich history of banner making as a form of protest.

Participants will work with professional artists and facilitators to create a patchwork textile banner exploring messages of resistance and unity. The final work will be displayed in the Old Royal Naval College exhibition space, alongside our Cornwallis Cloth exhibition.

In this workshop you will:

  • Learn about the Caribbean experiences of war, colonialism, and resistance.
  • Explore how banners are used around the world to communicate messages of hope, unity and defiance.
  • Contribute to a collaborative patchwork banner using a variety of techniques including screen-printing, fabric appliqué, and hand-stitching.

This workshop is suitable for all ages and abilities, and all materials are provided.
