Book now Plan A Visit

If you’re visiting the Painted Hall during half term, look out for our self-led family sketching resources!

Borrow sketchbooks and pencils, and as you take in Thornhill’s masterpiece, have a go at creating your own. Our family sit and sketch prompt cards will also be on hand to spark your inspiration and help you unlock the stories of the Painted Hall and see it in a new light.

Resources will be available throughout Painted Hall opening hours from Saturday 24 October to Sunday 1 November.

Whilst you’re in the creative zone, don’t forget to design your own dove to add to the Peace Doves installation coming to the Painted Hall later this year.

Remember to convert your ticket to an Annual Pass, allowing you to revisit for a whole year at no extra cost – including our monthly Family Days and upcoming Installations.

Please Note:

  • This is drop-in only and availability of resources will be on a first come, first served basis
  • Children must be accompanied and supervised by adults at all times
  • You are welcome to bring your own small sketchbook and pencil for use in the hall. Due to the nature of the space, we currently only allow standard black/grey HB pencils to be used in the Painted Hall
  • Please feel free to tear out and take home any of your artwork from the sketchbooks, but please return all other resources when you are finished.
