FAQs

Q1: What types of yoga classes are offered?

We currently offer Vinyasa Flow classes, provided by Kindred Yoga, a south-east London based Yoga studio. The practice in the Painted Hall is a dynamic and fluid style of yoga that links breath with movement, creating a seamless flow between postures. This type of yoga emphasises the coordination of breath and movement to create a moving meditation.

Suitable for all levels: Vinyasa Flow classes can be tailored to accommodate all levels of experience. Instructors offer modifications and variations for poses to ensure everyone can participate comfortably and safely, whether you are a beginner or an advanced practitioner.

What to expect in a Vinyasa Flow class:
• Warm-up: Classes typically start with a gentle warm-up to prepare the body for more intense movements. This may include simple stretches and breath awareness exercises.
• Sun salutations: Often, a series of Sun Salutations (Surya Namaskar) is performed to build heat and connect breath with movement. This is a hallmark of Vinyasa Flow.
• Standing sequences: The class then progresses to standing sequences that may include a variety of poses such as Warrior poses (Virabhadrasana), balancing poses, and twists.
• Peak poses: In some classes, the sequence builds up to one or more peak poses, which are more challenging postures designed to test strength, balance, and flexibility.
• Cool down: The latter part of the class focuses on cooling down the body with seated and supine poses, forward bends, and gentle twists.
• Savasana: Each class concludes with Savasana (Corpse Pose), a period of rest and relaxation that allows the body to absorb the benefits of the practice and the mind to find stillness.
