HistoryRiot at the Old Royal Naval College

News

Sat 29 May 21

The Old Royal Naval College is excited to be working with historical performance company, HistoryRiot.

Over the last year, HistoryRiot’s historical characters have been enlivening the buildings and grounds, bringing The Old Royal Naval College’s 500-year history to life.

Performers playing historical figures – from eminent architects to the Greenwich Pensioners themselves – have been roaming our grounds during special events such as First Sundays, offering live interpretation and interaction with the public.

Following successful partnerships with the Old Royal Naval College for Ghost Stories last Halloween, the Tudor Palace Palaver and First Sundays, HistoryRiot’s latest focus is world travel, looking at how throughout history this particular bend of the Thames at Greenwich has connected England to the rest of the world.

Entirely socially distanced, characters will engage with visitors through small moments and conversations as they pass between the buildings along College Way.

By engaging with historical characters such as the Georgian craftswoman, Eleanor Coade, John Anthony of the East India Company and William Locker of the Royal Navy; visitors will find out about day-to-day life in Georgian Greenwich and worldwide trade and business through the centuries.

Join us for the next First Sunday on 6 June to meet and immerse yourself in history with the HistoryRiot performers. Enjoy 500 Years of History and Painted Hall tickets for only £5.
