Our tour guides were recognised for their expertise, winning ‘Best Guided Tour’ award at the London For Groups Awards ceremony.

The inaugural London For Groups Awards took place on 21 February 2023 and brought together the best of the travel industry honouring historic venues, museums and galleries, bars and restaurants and theatres across London, recognising those who have excelled in their visitor offerings.

Tours at the Old Royal Naval College provide both an overview of 500 years of history at the Maritime Greenwich World Heritage site as well as a fascinating insight into the Painted Hall, known as ‘Britain’s Sistine Chapel’. A tour is an essential component of any visit, bringing to life stories and making them relevant for visitors today.

Visitor feedback often highlights that people experience an enhanced visit when taking a tour with a guide. They cite learning and discovering more about the site, greater context to the art and architecture they see around them and insight into over 500 years of history and heritage of this historic attraction.

Kate Miners, Head of Visitor Experience and Commercial at Old Royal Naval College said, “We are incredibly proud of this award, it is a testament to the wonderful guides we work with, both staff and volunteers and the great visitor experience we offer.

“The tour guides at the Old Royal Naval College are experienced, trained and skilled, but more than that they are passionate about history, heritage and the subject matter. Not only are they the friendly, welcoming face of the organisation, they are a wealth of information and spark the imagination of our visitors and so are a huge asset to the Old Royal Naval College.”

Winners were decided by the combination of a public vote put to London For Groups readers and a panel of expert judges in the travel industry.

Daily tours of the Old Royal Naval College, Greenwich are available all year around with additional options such as the Film & TV Tour provided at selected times during each week. Private tours can be arranged to suit groups of 10 people or more and this might include a private Film Tour, the Royal Tour or other specialist subjects.

From March – September to celebrate ‘Wren 300’, a special Wren Tour of the Old Royal Naval College, will see expert guides show visitors the stunning buildings here, as they learn about Sir Christopher Wren, a fascinating polymath and Britain’s most influential architect.
