The Greenwich Foundation has appointed Matthew Mees as new Chief Executive for the Old Royal Naval College, Greenwich.

Matthew has been Interim Chief Executive since October last year, and Director of Finance and IT since February 2019 .

Tony Hales CBE, Chair of the Greenwich Foundation for the Old Royal Naval College, said:

“Matthew joined as Director of Finance & IT of the Foundation and for some months now has been Interim Chief Executive, where he has done an excellent job in leading the team at a uniquely challenging time. While the current situation is placing highly unusual strains on individuals and organisations, the Foundation will reopen its doors in the course of time.

“Matthew is working hard with our terrific colleagues and volunteers to prepare for more normal times. I know Matthew has the full support of us all, in leading the preparation for an exciting future, welcoming once again visitors from the Royal Borough, Greater London, nationally and internationally to our beautiful and wondrous World Heritage Site by the River Thames. “

Matthew Mees said:

“I have had the great pleasure of working at the Old Royal Naval College in a truly transformative year with the re-opening of the magnificently conserved Painted Hall, our refreshed visitor offer and the introduction of the 500 Years of History Tours.

“We are delighted that we had over 1 million visitors over the year who provided us with invaluable feedback that will help us shape our future plans. We celebrated our first year on a high, winning Visitor Attraction of the Year at the London Tourism Awards.

“I am looking forward to working with our passionate staff, dedicated volunteers, and all our partners to welcome the public back again and engage all in heritage, conservation and an exciting public cultural programme.”
