Luxmuralis returns to the Old Royal Naval College with Lost Worlds

Following the success of Time, Luxmuralis return to our historic site this November with Lost Worlds. Created by acclaimed sculptor and artist Peter Walker and composer David Harper, Lost Worlds draws inspiration from the civilisations, myths and natural wonders of the ancient world.

For centuries, art has shaped the history of the Old Royal Naval College. Three hundred years after Sir James Thornhill completed the magnificent iconography of the Painted Hall in 1726, Luxmuralis draw upon this same enduring spirit of artistic innovation.

Unfolding through a series of captivating environments – from prehistoric cave art and evolving ancient patterns to the vivid worlds of knights, castles, dinosaurs and illuminated manuscripts – Lost Worlds invites you not simply to observe, but to become part of the artwork itself, surrounded by light, movement and sound.

Created for audiences of all ages, the experience offers moments of wonder, reflection and shared discovery, transforming one of London’s most iconic landmarks into an unforgettable after-dark experience. Bespoke projections will transform Sir Christopher Wren’s iconic dome into a spectacular canvas of light by reimagining the iconic Painted Hall masterpiece itself – an exclusive experience, uniquely available to experience here at the Old Royal Naval College as we celebrate 300 years of the Painted Hall.

With ‘Lost Worlds’, we want to invite people of every age and background to step into a place of wonder, to leave the everyday behind and become completely immersed in light, sound and storytelling. Whether visitors are fascinated by ancient civilisations, mythology, art or simply the experience of being surrounded by colour and music, I hope they feel a sense of curiosity and connection. For me, the greatest reward is seeing people share that journey together and experience this remarkable space in an entirely new way.”

Lost Worlds will transform our UNESCO World Heritage Site into a living artwork on 6-8 and 11-15 November 2026 (various times); SEND sessions are also available to book in advance. 

Painted Hall 300

This year marks the 300th birthday of the Painted Hall. Over the last three centuries, artists and storytellers have invited visitors to look up, pause, and imagine inside the Painted Hall.

Painted over the course of 19 years by Sir James Thornhill and his team, it remains one of the world’s most breathtaking Baroque interiors.
