Why are you hosting a music festival at a protected heritage site?

Hosting events in a heritage site, such as the Old Royal Naval College, is an excellent way to bring new audiences to experience and appreciate our awe-inspiring architecture and beautiful riverside setting and discover these historically important buildings and grounds. We want to share the significance of this site and celebrate our assets. Opening our spaces for cultural events like this, with world-renowned artists, is an incredibly powerful way to engage as many people as possible.

Any profit received by The Greenwich Foundation from events held at the Old Royal Naval College will be used to further the charitable mission of the Foundation – to inspire and engage the public in heritage and creativity and conserve and protect this historic site for the nation.

Will hosting this festival damage the integrity of the buildings and grounds?

The Old Royal Naval College has an excellent track record of hosting large scale concerts, events, and filming across our site whilst staying open to our community and visitors as a public space and a tourist destination. All contractors working on the build and delivery of the event are carefully selected and required to provide method statements of how the work will be carried out to ensure we can protect and conserve the site.

As part of our commitment to keeping our buildings and grounds safe and to protect these historically significant buildings and artworks for generations to come, we take extreme care of the fabric of the building and grounds. The work is overseen by a site team headed up by the Director of Estates and Conservation in conjunction with fulfilling requirements from Historic England to ensure that we protect these Grade I and II listed buildings.

What happens if the grass is damaged?

If there is damage to the grass, a certified contractor will assess the damage and reinstate the grass as appropriate.

What is the environmental impact of hosting this festival?

We are committed to putting environmental sustainability at the heart of our decision making and working with our partners and communities to minimise our impact on the environment.

Event organisers, Labyrinth Events, are committed to sustainability, with no on-site single use plastics; use of local suppliers including food vendors, reducing on site generator use where possible.

- Waste facilities are provided on site.
- The site will be litter picked each night, and any waste immediately disposed of to avoid unwanted pests.
- All public are actively encouraged to use the numerous public transport connections nearby, to reduce the carbon footprint of the event. Prior to the event, mailers will be sent to all ticket holders notify them on how to travel to the festival. Only public transport, taxi drop off/pick up area and details on the use of Thames Clippers will be included.

Will it be disruptive to the local community and residents?

We work closely with various partners including our site partners, The University of Greenwich, Trinity Laban Conservatoire and the Old Brewery, as well as the Royal Borough of Greenwich Community and Environmental Protection Team to do what we can to minimise the impact on residents. This means adhering to the noise management plan and complying to all guidance on sound levels and curfews set through the planning and consents process. All music will stop play at 23:00 on each live date. We employ an independent sound monitoring company who work onsite to ensure we are compliant with the regulations and adjust the sound where required. We are using the latest state-of-the-art sound system, which has been proven at other London sites to reduce noise overspill. We have arranged the concert site so that the stage is next to the river, and away from the nearest local residents.

What are you doing to keep people safe and secure through the festival?

Professional security will be provided by the organiser in anticipation of a range of scenarios and provide a capacity and additional safety checks. Security will be SIA (Security Industry Authority) qualified, with all badges checked to ensure validity. Stewarding resources will provide crowd management, way finding and supporting the public assisting with queues and gate operations. All stewards will be qualified and will have undertaken ACT (Action Counter Terrorism) and are working towards NVQ Level 2 in spectator safety. All staff will provide support in responding to incidents and emergencies.

Measures have been taken to ensure appropriate medical; ambulance and welfare provisions are available to all those attending or involved in delivering the event, with the aim of minimising the effects of the event on the statutory healthcare services by providing high quality care on site.

The Government’s Terrorism (Protection of Premises) Act 2025 is now in effect. The Security Industry Authority (SIA) has been named as the regulator for Martyn's Law and is working with the Home Office to prepare for its implementation. This law will require venues and local authorities to set out action plans against terror attacks to enhance the protection of public locations and the safety of visitors and staff. Labyrinth Events and its team will update plans accordingly.
