Ceremony of Light: Ganga Aarti on the Thames
Sun 13 Sept | 4pm-8pm
Tickets: £Free (Booking Required)
Old Royal Naval College, London SE10 9NN
Join Chinmaya Mission UK for a free riverside family day as part of Totally Thames 2026 – a joyful afternoon of food, music and live entertainment building to a spectacular Ganga Aarti, a traditional Ceremony of Light offered in gratitude to the river.
Taking place across the grounds of the Old Royal Naval College, the day brings together families, communities and visitors from across London, the UK and beyond for an afternoon celebrating Indian culture on the banks of the Thames. Expect community stalls, food, live music and dance, with plenty to keep little ones busy.
The event will culminate at dusk with a riverside Ganga Aarti – a traditional Hindu ceremony of light offered in gratitude to the river. Practised for generations on the banks of the Ganga (a sacred river in India), the Aarti will be shared in the heart of London as a powerful moment of unity, reflection and reverence for nature. Against the backdrop of the Thames and the Old Royal Naval College, the ceremony will invite people to pause, gather and celebrate the river not only as a landmark of the city, but as a source of connection, community and shared heritage.
This event is presented by Chinmaya Mission UK, a global spiritual, cultural and educational charity, in collaboration with Totally Thames, which celebrates the River Thames each September through arts, heritage and community events.
