Dress up, show up, break a record!
Fri 13 Jun 25
This summer, step onto the set of cinematic history and become part of a world record! To celebrate 100 years of movie magic at the UK’s most filmed heritage site, the Old Royal Naval College and Elstree Studios will stage a spectacular Guinness World Records™ attempt for the largest gathering of people dressed as film and TV characters.
On Saturday 27 September 2025, the riverside UNESCO World Heritage Site will honour a century on screen with a day to remember. Fans of Bridgerton, Batman, Pirates of the Caribbean, Star Wars, Indiana Jones and more are invited to dress up, show up, and make movie magic happen. From families to superfans, everyone is welcome to join this once-in-a-century celebration of film, fandom, and history for free.
Over the past 100 years, the Old Royal Naval College has featured in more than 300 film and TV productions, from Oscar-winners to streaming blockbusters, with directors including Christopher Nolan, Ridley Scott and Kenneth Branagh.
Elstree Studios, one of Britain’s oldest and most prestigious film and television studios, is also celebrating its centenary in 2025. Over the past 100 years the studios in Borehamwood, Herts, has become famous as the home of such iconic productions as Star Wars, Indiana Jones and The Shining.
Participants will dress as iconic screen characters that have graced the famous Elstree Studios and Old Royal Naval College’s stunning baroque backdrop – think Queen Charlotte, Jack Sparrow, Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia Batman and beyond. Costumes must feature recognisable elements to count towards the official Guinness World Records™.
This Guinness World Records™ attempt will feature iconic props and photo stations including the Batmobile, and a regal Bridgerton inspired throne, as well as unmissable set-jetting moments with live costume inspiration and film scene recreations. There will also be film-themed food, music, and fun for all ages as visitors take part in a joint cinematic celebration and opportunity to make history and be part of a GWR record!

“London is renowned as a global hub for film, television, VFX, animation and video games. Our talent, in front and behind the camera and constant innovation, from archive film to video games, continues to attract productions. Central to this film friendly landscape are our studios, locations and facilities and huge congratulations go to the Old Royal Naval College as they celebrate 100 years of movie magic at the UK’s most filmed heritage site. With its variety, flexibility and film friendly policies, it’s no surprise that so many world-class film and TV productions have used the site, and what better way to celebrate than with a World Record attempt.”
Rose Wangen-Jones, Managing Director at London & Partners and Visit London, comments,
“It’s really exciting to be celebrating 100 years of film history at such an iconic visitor destination. ’Set-jetting’ is a significant driver of tourism to London, with seven in 10 UK visitors going to a film or TV location during their visit. London has played a starring role in some of the biggest blockbuster productions, including the likes of Harry Potter, Bridget Jones and Paddington, which draw visitors from around the world to follow in their favourite characters’ footsteps.”
