Chapel Choir

About the Chapel Choir

Since 2001, the Old Royal Naval College Trinity Laban Chapel Choir has provided outstanding sacred music for the Chapel. The choir includes experienced singers from Trinity Laban Conservatoire and the local community around Greenwich. The choir is directed by Ralph Allwood (MBE) with support from the chapel organist, Jonathan Eyre.

The choir sings a varied repertoire, spanning over 500 years of music and gives approximately one hundred public performances every year as part of the worship at Choral Eucharist and Evensong services. The choir also sing at additional services during Holy Week, Ascension Day and Remembrance Day. Highlights in the choir calendar include the Advent Carol Services and performances of oratorios at Christmas and Easter.

Now considered to be one of the most exceptional sacred music ensembles in London, the choir is unique amongst cathedral and church choirs as it is the only collegiate Chapel Choir in the UK to be supported by a Conservatoire. This allows the choir additional access to a wide range of musical resources and support.

In previous years the choir has toured internationally, visiting countries such as India (2018) and Malta (2016) as well as touring nationally on its tour of British Cathedrals (2017).

Many alumni from the choir have gone on to work as choral scholars and lay clerks in other UK cathedrals and church choirs, as well as singing professionally in some of the UK’s leading vocal ensembles. Some singers have also been successful as soloists, performing in distinguished competitions such as the Kathleen Ferrier Awards and Mozart Singing Competition.
